Friday 20 March 2015: the first ever international race up the Eiffel Tower!

The Verticale de la Tour Eiffel, a race up 279m of the most iconic monument in Paris: this is the new challenge set by the Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel and Ecotrail de Paris who hosted the 8th edition of event. From the plaza to the summit, 57 runners competed in this first ever international version of the competition: 39 elite stair and trail runners were chosen by an expert panel of journalists, and 18 more runners had their names drawn out of a hat.

After climbing 1665 steps and victory hotly contested to the very end, Piotr Lobodzinski (Poland) achieved the winning time of 7 minutes 50 seconds. He stayed ahead of Kiril Nikolov (Bulgaria) and Bernard Dematteis (Italy), who occupied the other spaces on the podium for this 1st international event.

In the women’s race, Australia’s Suzy Walsham (9’44’74) took the top spot, ahead of Christel Dewalle (France) and Francesca Rossi (Italy) in second and third.
